Monthly LSH Meeting

The intention for this meeting is to run a workshop looking at how we, as Lancashire Secular Humanists, can demonstrate our value and worth in our local communities.

There are existing opportunities available through Humanists UK such as accredited non-religious pastoral care, major incident support, accredited funeral, wedding and naming celebrants and schools awareness.

However, at the workshop it would be good to delve deeper as to how we could do more. This could be throughout the year or at certain times such as Xmas.

Benefits would be around raising positive awareness, myth busting about being mainly anti-religious, personal wellbeing, community benefit etc.

David Fleming and I will also update on the discussion we are having tomorrow (Weds night) with representatives from Greater Manchester, Chester, Stockport and Liverpool around re-launching the North West Humanist Group which will include an annual regional conference which were previously very popular. I know that other groups are thinking about ‘Humanism in the community’ as a theme for this conference.

One area we might also want to discuss next week is representation on multi-belief groups. Keith and Chris have already been involved in tremendous work in Bolton last year and David and I attended a Preston Interfaith Forum meeting last week. There is also potential for some east-Lancashire based funding for multi-belief projects.

Please do try your very best to attend. It is great that we are also picking up new members from the Humanists UK website. As I said in my introductory email, I know a first meeting can be very daunting so please contact me if you would like a chaperone service.

If you are struggling transport wise – also let me know and I can circulate details of who and locations re potential car shares.

Many thanks and hopefully see you next Wednesday. Please come with some great ideas.
